Unemployed... Will Sew For Food.

Since getting laid off I have taken some much needed time to sew and get all caught up on my craft projects. My sewing machine and I have been best friends this past week. I'm sewing clothes, quilting, and making this really cute little picnic blanket that rolls up and has a strap so you can just throw it over your shoulder. It's been so nice to work on things I actually want to work on. No homework, no work, no nothing. It's great!

One project that I have been avoiding is turning a huge pile of jeans into squares for some quilts. I don't think I would have been able to cut them all up if it wasn't for Gary. He came home every single night from work and salvaged the usable parts of the jeans for me to use. He even cut them into strips so I could make them into blocks. He seriously saved my sanity because I hate cutting up jeans! That was the whole reason they had sat there for days and days. Rest assured, my husband is the best. Ever. This is the busiest time of year at his work and he came home tired every night, but instead of relaxing he helped me with the things I was doing! That's love people. I'm so lucky.

So I know you are just dying to know how many squares I cut right? 440.
Yes, I counted them.

I'm glad those jeans are out my life. I'm excited to make quilts out of the blocks though. Gary remembers having a jean quilt when he was little and I thought it would be cute to make a couple twin quilts out of them for our kids. They're going to be adorable. Plus, they'll be warm and perfect for camping! But I'm probably getting ahead of myself.

We also have been planning on redecorating our dining room. Remember how we bought more chairs? I talked about it {here}. Well Gary has been working hard on them and last night we decided to go ahead and put our new fabric on one to see how it looked.

This chair is done except it still needs to be all distressed, but I think it looks so pretty! And I love our fabric.
The room is going to look so much better when we're done. I'm so excited!
